Respite & Recreation Club (R&R Club) is a respite care and recreational alternative for families with a child with a disability.
What is R&R Club?
A drop-off evening of fun for any child that has a disability from birth to age 21 and any siblings. This is a chance for parents to enjoy an evening out. Each evening can accommodate a maximum of 30 children.
The R&R Clubs are run by Broadscope staff (who are present during all R&R Club events) and volunteers from the area.
What about personal care?
There will be a respite provider available to assist the children with any toileting or personal care needs.
What happens during R&R Club?
The children are divided up in to the following groups:
Each group participates in Arts & Crafts, Fun, Games, and Group Activities. A snack will be provided, but please let staff know if your child has any food restrictions.
While group participation is encouraged, your children are not required to attend any specific activities. It just a night to have fun and relax! One-on-one supervision is available if your child has any specific needs.
Interested in volunteering?
We are always looking for additional volunteers to help out at R&R Club. If you have experience with children with disabilities or you are interested in getting more involved, we’d love to have you! Especially high school or college aged students interested in related fields (OT, PT, Special Education, etc.). Don’t be concerned if you don’t have any experience with people with disabilities. We have plenty of staff on site to assist and handle any problems throughout the night. Volunteers are not responsible for personal care.
Volunteers are expected to arrive by 5pm for a short orientation and site walk-through. Please be prepared for mild physical activity. A light snack will be provided. Everything is usually wrapped up and volunteers are free to leave around 8:45pm.
